That’s right NFL betting fans, you’re favorite cornerback, DeAngelo Hall, is once again getting paid. By my count, this is now two huge paydays in the last two years for Hall.

NFL betting fans know this guy as the loud mouth trash-talker who opposing quarterbacks have no problems targeting.

Now he’s going to get paid even more to be that guy.

In total, Hall has earned $46.5 million in guarantees over the last two years, which kind of gives me the impression that the economy is fine.

It’s the first day of free agency and obviously it’s a key day for NFL betting fans. In other news, Kellen Winslow was shipped off to Tampa Bay. Obviously, Eric Mangini doesn’t want to deal with any of his garbage and neither do NFL betting handicappers. He’s not worth the headache.

The Detroit Lions aren’t worrying about Baseball Classic odds or the March Madness odds right now. They are wondering whether they should draft a quarterback with the first overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Like last year, there are questions about the quarterbacks. Nobody was fully sold on Matt Ryan, but look at how he turned out.

Those who bet sports didn’t really know much about Joe Flacco either, but he turned out pretty well.

Sportsbook odds don’t have Stafford – or a quarterback- favored to go as the top pick in the draft. That’s likely because new head coach Jim Schwartz is more of a “line of scrimmage” guy, which might mean they opt for an offensive tackle instead.

I’ll take a break Baseball Classic odds as the tournament rosters are about to be announced tonight to talk about a different roster move in the NFL. Pro Bowl defensive tackle is rumored to be heading to the Washington Redskins in a deal that could break the $100 million range.

Those who bet sports might not really care, but for NFL heads this is an insane contract.

Haynesworth is a lazy player who performed well on essentially two one-year contracts. Now he’s going to have long term security and he’s going to mail it in.

Online betting handicappers have watched several free agent signings by the Washington Redskins just blow up in their faces. This will be the next.

Back to March Madness odds and Baseball Classic betting. The NFL season is still a ways away.

There’s not much else except for some NBA betting tonight so we’ll focus on the NFL combine. The league is focused in on Indianapolis and we’ll see if the league is duped by a couple of fast tight ends.

As most scouts have it right now, Oklahoma State’s Brandon Pettigrew is the top tight end in the draft. But Jared Cook, in most cases not a Top-5 tight end prospect, just flew up a lot of draft boards with a 4.5-second run of the event.

That’s the fastest time since Vernon Davis became the sixth pick overall in the 2006 NFL Draft because of his insane 4.38 time in the 40. Sportsbook odds suggest that it will be a long time before anyone breaks Davis’ time.

And if that’s the case, then Cook looks great with a 4.5 time. Southern Mississippi’s Shawn Nelson could be the guy who helped himself the most. He might have eclipsed Pettigrew as the top tight end because he ran a 4.56.

NFL betting isn’t as far away as you think. I’ll be doing some betting and picking for the NFL Draft, which is at the end of April. Most sportbook lines will have some options for you so pay attention to the combine and speculation as we approach the draft.

At one point, it looked like we’d need UFC 95 lines on Nnamdi Asomugha and the Oakland Raiders to see who would win.

Now everyone is one big happy family. The Raiders re-signed their corner for crazy money ($28.5 M guaranteed), which will keep him in a Raiders uniform for up to the next three years.

Good work, Asomugha (and his agent). You guys can now sit back and enjoy March Madness lines, World Baseball Classic odds and relax until spring camps begin. $28.5 over three years?!?!?! Great work by Asomugha’s agent.

You might be distracted by UFC 95 betting, and the upcoming March Madness betting hoopla, but let’s focus on the NFL for just a minute (and not just NFL betting).

Start your countdown, free agency begins in eight days! Teams have already started – and have been playing – franchise tag and nine players have already received the designation.

Linebacker Karlos Dansby (ARZ), Punter Michael Koenen (ATL), Linebacker/defensive end Terrell Suggs.  (BAL), Matt Cassel (NE), Running back Brandon Jacobs (NYG), Running back Darren Sproles (SD), Safety Oshiomogho Atogwe (STL), Receiver Antonio Bryant (TB).

Should be interesting. Guys like Sproles have been tagged, but he might just get traded. Another guy like Julius Peppers could earn a tag as well, just so the Panthers get something for him.

NFL betting is like 200 days and counting. For now, I’m looking forward to UFC 95 lines and the World Baseball Classic odds. But I still have my eye on the NFL.

I was reading about UFC 95 picks at the Bettor’s Edge blog when this news flew in to my inbox: Raiders release Ronald Curry.

Curry, who has shown flashes, at times, might be considered a free agent steal now that he’s up for grabs. Sportsbook odds don’t exactly change whether he plays or not, but I think Curry is the type of player than can be an effective No. 2 receiver for a decent team.

Playing in Oakland, with JaMarcus Russell at quarterback, obviously his numbers sagged. But keep in mind that he’s no spring chicken. Curry is going to be 30-years-old in May and isn’t exactly a sexy young prospect any more.

Sportsbook insiders seem to think that Miami would be a good fit for him, if the price is right.

Fred Taylor is now a free agent. If it was college football season, he’d have the extra time to watch his alma mater Florida dominate – not so sure that he’ll have much to see with the Gators as far as March Madness betting goes.

Taylor is an 11-year veteran who has run for more than 10,000 yards. More importantly, according to sportsbook odds, nobody ever thought he would be this good.

As you might recall, Taylor was tabbed as injury prone and sportsbook odds had to be adjusted regularly for Jaguar games depending on if Taylor was healthy or not. Taylor played in just 40 out of a potential 64 games to start his career (first four seasons). But Taylor has been healthy for 100 out of his last 112 games, and he has shedded that “injury-prone” label.

Kickback, enjoy the college basketball lines and the World Baseball Classic odds for now, but not to worry, someone will sign him.

What boggles my mind is that he offered to take a pay cut but the Jags wouldn’t let him. Some sportsbook insiders believe that there was some behind the scenes problems.

Stop following the Daytona 500 line for a minute; remember last offseason, the NFL Network hired Corey Chavous to do analysis for the NFL Draft? Well now they can keep him all year long if they want – the St. Louis Rams just cut him.

Chavous can now focus on the NFL Draft, Daytona odds, March Madness betting, World Baseball Classic odds and sports betting. Or just the NFL Draft.

We’ll see if the NFL picks him up again or if last year was just a one-year trial.

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

I’ve been busy with the Daytona 500 line, and looking forward to March Madness betting, but I figured I’d pass this along to you guys since I saw it on the net. This is the Raiders new 50th season logo:

It still doesn’t change that JaMarcus Russell is overweight, and the franchise sucks, but the logo looks cool. Not sure if those who bet sports are going to care so much.
